- Kimbal Musk (54) — restaurateur, co-founder of Zip2, Big Green and Square Roots; director of both Tesla and SpaceX.
- Tosca Musk (52) — filmmaker; co-founded the streaming service Passionflix.
- Maternal grandfather Joshua Haldeman was a Canadian chiropractor and political figure who moved the family to South Africa in 1950; cousins Lyndon and Peter Rive founded SolarCity.

His eldest daughter, Vivian Jenna Wilson, came out as transgender in 2020 and changed her name in 2022 saying she no longer wished to be related to him “in any way, shape, or form”; she is now a model in Los Angeles and appears in the 2026 documentary Musk. He has described her transition as being “killed by the woke mind virus.” He says he has many children to help with “the underpopulation crisis.”
Where and how he lives
He says his home is a roughly $50,000 prefab at Starbase, Texas, rented from SpaceX, after selling seven California houses in 2020–21 to “own no house.” Reporting has also traced an Austin-area mansion and dozens of entities holding property, planes and land for his use. He splits time among Austin (Tesla, Terafab), Starbase (SpaceX), Memphis (Colossus) and, in 2025, Washington. He disclosed Asperger's on SNL in 2021, is a lifelong gamer (and admitted in 2025 to paying for boosted game accounts), posts on X dozens of times a day, and says he sleeps about six hours.
