SpaceX and Tesla are the two biggest pieces, but Elon Musk's world now stretches from a brain implant lab to a tunnel company to a bank account inside a social network — and in 2026 the pieces started fusing together. Here is every piece, where it stands, and how they connect.

Until early 2026 these were separate companies that happened to share a founder. That is no longer true. On February 2, 2026 SpaceX acquired xAI — and with it X — in an all-stock deal that valued SpaceX at $1 trillion and xAI at $250 billion, the largest merger ever recorded. CNBC SpaceX then went public on June 12, 2026 as SPCX on Nasdaq. In October 2026, SpaceX and Tesla formed special board committees to study merging the two remaining giants. TechCrunch

Colossus 1 in Memphis was built in 122 days and switched on in September 2024 with 100,000 Nvidia H100s. By the time of the S-1 it held 220,000+ GPUs drawing more than 300 MW. Colossus 2 across the state line in Southaven, Mississippi was deployed in 91 days and is sized at roughly a gigawatt, with a third building targeting ~2 GW total. Colossus overview
The twist of 2026: much of that compute is rented out. Anthropic agreed in May 2026 to take all of Colossus 1's capacity (reported at ~$1.25B a month), and Google agreed in June to pay $920M a month for 110,000 GPUs — disclosed in an SEC filing days before the IPO. Euronews The S-1 showed why the cash matters: the AI segment lost $6.4 billion on $3.2 billion of revenue in 2025. S-1 analysis

Every one of xAI's eleven non-Musk co-founders had left by March 28, 2026 — Igor Babuschkin (Aug 2025), Jimmy Ba and Tony Wu (Feb 2026), Toby Pohlen, Guodong Zhang, Zihang Dai and finally Ross Nordeen. CFO Anthony Armstrong left in April 2026. Musk posted that “xAI was not built right first time around” and said it was being rebuilt from the foundations; ex-Starlink VP Michael Nicolls now runs the AI unit and SpaceX CFO Bret Johnsen runs its finances. Musk closed the $44 billion Twitter purchase on October 27, 2022, renamed it X, moved it to Texas, and has spent four years turning it into a WeChat-style everything app. Linda Yaccarino was CEO from June 2023 until she resigned on July 9, 2025; no successor was named, and since February 2026 X has lived inside SpaceX's AI division. On October 23, 2026 Grok Imagine released “Episode 1”: a seven-minute opening made with Wonder Studios and director Dev Walker. A24 bought the rights to Walter Isaacson's biography in November 2023 with Darren Aronofsky attached to direct. As of October 2026 there has been no casting, start date or release date announced.
Terafab is a joint venture of Tesla, SpaceX and xAI to build chips at a scale no company has attempted — launched on March 21–22, 2026 at Austin's old Seaholm Power Plant, where Musk called it “the most epic chip building exercise in history by far.” SiliconANGLE

Musk became the world's first dollar trillionaire on June 12, 2026 — SpaceX's IPO day — fell back below the line in July as the stock slumped, and crossed it again on October 5, 2026 at $1.04 trillion by Bloomberg's count (Forbes puts him near $1.1T). Musk led the Department of Government Efficiency from January 20 to May 30, 2025, feuded publicly with President Trump that June, announced an “America Party” in July that was never filed, and reconciled with Trump at Charlie Kirk's memorial in September 2025. He is the largest known donor of the 2026 midterm cycle at roughly $443 million per Forbes. Forbes
Two of the most talked-about stories of autumn 2026 are gifts of SpaceX stock to children through the new federal “Trump Accounts.”
On July 6, 2026 SpaceX president Gwynne Shotwell and her husband Robert pledged a share of their own SpaceX stock to more than 2 million children aged 11–17 in lower-income areas — a gift valued around $330 million. On October 30, 2026 Shotwell said the shares were moving into escrow for distribution in December to children in ZIP codes with median family income of $57,000 or less; a second gift for children of overseas military families, foster children and central-Texas counties is to follow “in coming weeks.” Reuters
On October 19, 2026 Musk said on X that he will give one SpaceX share to every child in America in 2027 through Trump Accounts — roughly 60 million children, which at October prices would be a gift of more than $10 billion. The mechanism has not been announced; Treasury rules route such gifts through a charity, and Musk's own shares are locked up until about June 2027, which fits the “next year” timing. Axios

Now CEO of eMed.
Left Aug 2025 to start an AI-safety VC firm.
On October 20, 2026 both boards formed special committees of independent directors to study a merger, at what Musk described as shareholders' request. He recused himself as “a conflicted party,” and named AI software, robotics, Starmind orbital data centers and Terafab as the synergies. TechCrunch
The hurdle is on Tesla's side: approval needs a yes from 50% of all outstanding shares — about 1.98 billion votes — which Musk called “quite a high hurdle.” Bloomberg has noted the committees' members are close to Musk. No terms have been agreed. 24/7 Wall St
